133 – Toe of the Icefield

Here we see a toe of the ‘Columbia Icefield,’ known as the Athabasca Glacier.  It is the remnant of a thick mass of ice that once capped most of the mountains in Western Canada, and has been in a state of recession for the last 125 years.  This is the most visited glacier in North America, and is a moderate, but amazing hike that is not for the feint for heart, at 6500 feet above sea level.
