As per the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Act, a state of local emergency was declared in Saint John’s Southern Peninsula today due to heavy snowfall and anticipation of more to come. There was a need to ensure emergency vehicle access to all areas of the Southern Peninsula by sending crews out to start clearing the buried streets. What this means for those living in the uptown area is a 24/7 ban against parking on the street, until further notice. Peel Plaza and Lower Cove has been opened up and cleared for residents who live in the Southern Peninsula looking for parking. This photograph shows a desolate Germain Street in the heart of the uptown area.
