141 – Freemasons in Saint John

What is a Freemason?  Well, it’s an international fraternity and secret society, with the only religious requirement being that you believe in a ‘Supreme Being.’  Freemasons have existed for many centuries, hold elaborate secret ceremonies and aim to create fellowship and good in their communities.  Uptown Saint John is host to the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick, an organization formed back in 1867, the year of our Confederation.  The cornerstone for this temple was laid on what we now refer to as Canada Day, back in 1878.
